Yes. It is regulated by FSSAI and the standards of Alcoholic beverages are specified in FSS Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulations, 2018.

“Food grade material” means material made of substances which are safe and suitable for their intended use, which shall not change in the composition of the food and transfer harmful or toxic substances into food it is holding.

There are no standards of instant coffee in FSSR. However”Instant coffee is prepared from brewed coffee beans and is commercially prepared by either freeze-drying or spray drying, after which it can be rehydrated.

Food packaging protects the food from chemical, biological and physical damage thereby retarding product deterioration, extending shelf life and maintaining or increasing the quality and safety of food.

FSSAI selects members on Scientific Committee through transparent process as specified in the guidelines on internal procedure for selection of members of the Scientific Committee and Scientific Panels. These are available of the website fssai.gov.in.

First any proposal for standard development is deliberated by respective Scientific Panels, and then by Scientific Committee. Their recommendations after getting approved by the Food Authority are draft notified inviting comments from stakeholders. After considering stake-holders comments and following due procedure, the standards are finally notified.

Any person can send the proposal for development of standards for new food products/ revision of existing food products standards. Any person can give his suggestions/comments on the draft notifications which are issued by FSSAI.

Anybody can give comments food product relating draft notifications with proper justification and supporting documents, if any. These may be seen under Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 and their amendments.

Yes. They are regulated under Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and labelling) Regulations, 2011 and Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016. These regulations are available in FSSAI website www.fssai.gov.in for everyone at free of cost.

Packaged drinking water uses water from any source which has to be treated and disinfected, a process that could involve filtration, UV or ozone treatment or reverse osmosis (RO) before it is fit for human consumption. The standards for packaged drinking water are specified in sub-regulations 2.10.8 of FSS (FP & FA) Regulations, 2011.

It is not subjected to any treatment other than those permitted by the standards specified for Mineral water in sub Regulations 2.10.7 of FSS(FP & FA) Regulations, 2011 mentioned as under:

Standards of Natural mineral water are specified in Sub Regulations 2.10.7 of FSS(FP & FA) Regulations, 2011.Natural mineral water is water from underground sources that is packaged close to the source, characterizedbyitscontentofcertainmineralsaltsandtheirrelativeproportionsandthe presenceoftraceelementsorofotherconstituents, collectedunderconditionswhichguaranteetheoriginalmicrobiologicalpurityandchemical compositionofessentialcomponents;and specified quality standards without any treatmentsother than those permitted by the said standards specified for Mineral water.

TDS for Packeged Drinking water: 500 mg/l ( max)and TDS for Mineral water is 150-to 700 mg/l (Max).
