What is a food grade material?
“Food grade material” means material made of substances which are safe and suitable for their intended use, which shall not change in the composition of the food and transfer harmful or toxic substances into food it is holding.

How standards are developed?
First any proposal for standard development is deliberated by respective Scientific Panels, and then by Scientific Committee. Their recommendations after getting approved by the Food Authority are draft notified inviting comments from stakeholders. After considering stake-holders comments and following due procedure, the standards are finally notified.

Any person can send the proposal for development of standards for new food products/ revision of existing food products standards. Any person can give his suggestions/comments on the draft notifications which are issued by FSSAI.

What is packaged drinking water?
Packaged drinking water uses water from any source which has to be treated and disinfected, a process that could involve filtration, UV or ozone treatment or reverse osmosis (RO) before it is fit for human consumption. The standards for packaged drinking water are specified in sub-regulations 2.10.8 of FSS (FP & FA) Regulations, 2011.
