What is double fortified salt? How it is different from Iodized salt?
Double fortified salts contain iron in addition to the iodine. Iodized salt are fortified with iodine only. Standard for iodized salt and double fortified salt is prescribed under 2.9.30 (2) and 2.9.30 (5) respectively of Food Safety & Standards (Food Products Standards & Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
What is the difference between regular salts and salt substitute?
Regular salt contains min 96 % of sodium chloride while sodium content cannot be not more than 120 mg/100 g in salt substitute. Standards of Salt substitute is prescribed under 2.9.30 clause 6 of Food Safety & Standards (Food Products Standards & Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
