Iodised salt, for human consumption, has already been mandated by law since 2005. Therefore, if the law to ensure production and sale of iodised salt exclusively is enforced, it would enable everyone to consume iodised salt. DFS is being used voluntarily at present. We need to work closely with state and central government departments, health care providers, non-government organizations, development partners, experts, the salt industry, salt regulators, policy makers, communicators, and educators to promote the use of DFS. Also, if there is awareness among people about the benefits of fortified salt, there will be an increase in demand and consequently in consumption. In addition, by ensuring there is adequate supply in the market and DFS is made available and accessible to people through Government safety net programmes and the open market, people will begin to consume it.
