DFS contains iodine (as potassium iodate) at a level of 30 parts per million (ppm) at the production level at 15 ppm at the consumer level, along with iron (as Ferrous Sulphate or Ferrous Fumarate) at a level of 850-1100 ppm. Depending upon the type of iron compound used, it may additionally contain stabilizers and coating agents to protect the iron and keep the salt in stable condition without changes in colour, taste or smell.
